What skills does HR need from candidates during the interview?

Share it

I interviewed a candidate from Ajmer (Rajasthan). He has done his M.B.A (Master in Business Administration) From Delhi University with a specialization in Finance. He has finished his M.B.A with 85%, but still, his learning was incomplete because he didn’t know about soft skills that the organization need from him.

I want to discuss my experience with you.

In the month of July 2019, we called him for an interview for a Finance Company. I asked him, “whether he is interested to start with a large Finance company”. He replied “Yes”. We arranged his interview the next day.

At that point he was just thinking about his hard skills only like Financial Management, Accounting, Cash Flow Management, and MS Excel, etc. and he thought he was to crack any interview.

Next day. he reached as per the scheduled timings. He noticed 10 more candidates were there for the interview and the company had only 1 opening available.

After witing for about 1 hour he finally got the chance for a face to face round.

He was very nervous and was feeling hesitant while speaking. He was unable to present his soft skills. And unfortunately, he got rejected by that company because he had a lack of soft skills.

On that day he realized that hard skills are as important as soft skills. On the same day, he started to focus on his communication skills, creativity, persuasion, and problem-solving abilities and the result is now he is working with a Large NBFC company based in Mumbai.

Soft skills in the workplace are becoming increasingly more important as organizations look forward to adding additional value to their business. company leadership and HR Professionals believe that improved soft skills lead to better behavior and business climate, which leads to better results.
